Key Terms used in Ludo
In order to understand the step-by-step method of playing Ludo, it is important to understand the key terms used in the gameplay:
- Pawns: Each player has four pawns that can be moved across Ludo board as per the rolls of a dice. Players move their pawns strategically to increase their chances of winning.
- Starting Zone: The section of the board where all pawns of the player are situated.
- Home: The center of the board, where pawns strive to reach throughout the game
- Dice: Every roll generates a number from one to six, and determines how far the paen can move
- Rolling: Throwing the dice to generate a number.
- Auto Roll: A feature to automatically roll the dice at the beginning of your turn.
- Turn: Every chance that the player gets to roll the dice is called as a turn
- Extra Turn: Every 6 on the dice grants a player an extra turn, except when it is a third six rolled in a row. In this case, the turn is skipped. Killing an opponent’s pawn, reaching home also gives an extra turn.
- Safe Zone: Tiles on the board, often marked with Star, that shield the pawns on that tile from being killed. Safe zones are also formed when two or more pawns of a player stand on one tile.
- Pawn Blocking: Placement of pawns on the board that restrict the opponent from moving their pawns without the risk of getting the pawn killed.
- Eliminating a pawn: You can kill the pawn of an opponent by landing on the same tile as that of the opponent’s pawn.
- Timer: Game Timer defines the time under which the game has to be played. Turn Timer defines the time under which a player has to move their turn.
- Extra Time: Players can get extra time if they miss their turn. This is a limited time bank available for the whole game.
- Points / Score: Points or scores are earned through tile movement and reaching the finish zone. Bonus points are awarded for eliminating an opponent’s pawn.
- Entry Fee: An entry fee is required as an amount to join a game.
